Name: Nancy Bloom

Current clinical role or title: Supervising Psychologist, Mount Lucas site

Primary theoretical orientation: Integrated psychotherapeutic approach to treatment informed by cognitive-behavioral, family systems, and psychodynamic theories.

Primary clinical interests/areas of expertise: Substance abuse, mood/anxiety disorders, women's issues, parenting and family concerns, adolescent psychopathology, sport psychology.

Research interests (if any): Treatment outcome, family intervention, motivational enhancement.

Helped in development of four unique mental health programs: 1) Ft. Washington Houses Senior Center Social Respite - one of the first municipally funded programs for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease in NY, 2) Integrated Service Delivery Team- intensive case management team for developmental disabled adults with mental health diagnoses, 3) Statewide Clinical Consultation and Training - statewide team that confers with screening centers and mental health providers regarding services for developmentally disabled adults with mental health diagnoses, 4) 2D unit - only 10-bed unit in NJ outside the state hospital system dedicated to the psychiatric inpatient treatment of developmentally disabled/mental ill adults.

Personal Comments: I maintain a part-time private practice in Princeton. I live in the area with my husband and teenage daughter; my older daughter works for US Geological Survey as a hydrologist and is pursuing a master's at UPenn.

Other Professional Accomplishments: Dr. Washton is a clinician, researcher, and author who has specialized in treating addictions since 1975. He has directed hospital-based and freestanding addiction treatment programs in both public and private sectors. He is a licensed psychologist with national proficiency certification in the Treatment of Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders from the American Psychological Association, College of Professional Psychology. He has been a recipient of research grants and fellowship awards from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and has given expert testimony before special committees of The U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. He has also served as substance abuse advisor to the US Food and Drug Administration, major corporations, and to professional sports teams and players' organizations. He is currently a member of the Substance Abuse Experts Advisory Group for the Practice Directorate of the American Psychological Association. Dr. Washton's publications include over 50 journal articles and nine books.

Personal Comments: I am strongly dedicated to enhancing the clinical role of psychologists in treating addiction. I welcome working with interns who are interested in learning more about the treatment of addiction and/or possibly developing a career specializing in addiction psychology.
